Hello there! Thanks for visiting. I'm Melissa Kojima, a Los Angeles based, illustrator, designer and dreamer who believes in play! I've created my best work when I've been playing like for the Los Angeles Times Newspaper, illustrating the children's section, and Loyola Marymount University, making fantastical, animal, paper mache, opera masks for their opera department. Play has helped me get over my fear of making mistakes and helped me connect to playful folks like you! My paper play artwork has sold at the Santa Monica Museum of Art and the Japanese American National Museum.
Because I believe in the power of play, I seek fun and novel ways to spark imagination and communicate our thoughts and feelings. I do this with paper play goods at Artist in LA LA Land. It's for children, kids at heart and everyone who wants to reconnect with play.
Creating and playing with paper started when I was a little girl. My sister would want to play house, but I wanted to play mail. Did anyone else ever play this besides me and my little sister? I'd create letters, cards, paper dolls, paper toys and deliver them to imaginary mail boxes. It all began way back then and doesn't it usually?
